A Child’s Ten+ Commandments for Puppy Care
Go over the following “commandments” with you child. Print them out and post them on the fridge to remind the kids to properly interact with your new puppy. These “commandments” where modified from the one’s written by Stacy Kennedy and published in Animal Planet Complete Guide to Puppy Care.

Thou shall treat all animals as I would like to be treated – gently, kindly, and respectfully.
Thou shall not lift the puppy unless I have been taught to do it properly and an adult is nearby.
Thou shall not disturb the puppy while he/she is eating or sleeping.
Thou shall not share my snacks.
Thou shall keep my toys and puppy’s toys separate.
Thou shall keep the floor clean of Lego’s, socks, underwear that my puppy can chew and get sick on.
Thou shall not tease the puppy or play tug-a-war.
Thou shall not approach any strange dog with or without my puppy.
Thou shall help the puppy follow the rules of the house and not allow him/her to disobey the rules.
Thou shall honor that puppy is a living thing and take responsibility for his/her care and well-being.
Thou shall enjoy the years of love and friendship puppy gives me – and remember to give it back.
